Nas Shouted Me Out – Git Ready TeeMix
I can’t explain how it felt to hear one of my favorite rappers of all times, Nasir Jones aka Nas, shout me out on his new album “Light Years” with DJ Premier.
Nas’ lyricism helped shaped the way I approach my music. My song Mariahas elements of Nas’ approach to storytelling. His 1996 collaboration for “If I Ruled The World” with another artist on my Mount Rushmore, Lauryn Hill, had me day dreaming about the life I could create. So of course my mind is still blown after receiving several mentions and DMs congratulating me For what? I had no clue. Plus, it was 2am in the morning and I had just woke up to pee. So as I doom scrolled in hopes to fall back asleep, I get a DM from B.Dot. Yes, that B.Dot. He too congratulated me saying “Nice shout out on the new Nas album.” This was B.Dot a hiphop aficionado. Surely he couldn’t be mistaken. I had to be having a lucid dream but I wasnt! Light Years. Track 12. Nas’ dedicates “Bouquet” to several women in hiphop artists penning beautiful verses to female lyricist and during the out, he shouts out “3D Na’Tee.” Yep, that was special. So it was only right that I TeeMix a track from the Light Years album produced by the legendary DJ Premier.
